Week 13

Image
The short week started with Grandparents/Special Friends' Day! It was truly special to see and meet all of the guests in Room 112, and the first graders were absolutely beaming! What a great way to start the short week! Science is off to a great start! We have started our Rocks, Pebbles, Sand and Silt Unit, and the Room 112 geologists got their official rock journals. They explored and sorted 3 different igneous rocks (basalt, scoria, tuff). We will continue exploring rocks and learning how they are formed. The first grade geologists ROCK -- pun intended :) Reminders: 11/27 - 12/1 -- Missoula Performance 12/1 -- Missoula Performance  Student @ 12:45pm Family @ 7:00pm 12/2 -- Holiday Bazaar @ 9:00 - 5:00pm

Week 12

Yay - A full week of school! Here are some highlights... On Wednesday, we met with our 4th grade buddies. The kiddos got to make their very own paper bag turkey! All of the kiddos had lots that they are thankful for :) On Thursday, our Literacy Coach, Mrs.Edwards, came to visit during our reader's workshop. She came in to see all of the growth and progress the first graders have made in their reading. Mrs. Edwards also showed the class some research and charts about reading. The visual showed how staying engaged, ignoring distractions and focusing on our books can help us keep growing and growing! On the chart, the reader that was focused and reading the whole time at school, at home, in the store, in the car, etc. was represented by a green line, so in Room 112 we are becoming "green line" readers!  In math, we are taking our work with place value and using it to add bigger numbers together. When we understand the value of each digit we know that 23 is really 20

Week 11

I loved getting the chance to meet with all of you, and I am looking forward to continuing to work together to make this a successful year for your students! The kindergarteners came in for a reading parade to show off their reading skills! The first graders were reading cheerleaders and then got to share their reading skills and strategies with Mrs.Evans' kindergartners. It was a fun celebration of hard work and great reading :) We had a great class discussion about why we didn't have school on Friday - Veteran's Day. To honor our Veterans, we wrote letters to them to send to the VA Hospital. I was blown away by the thought and love that each of your first graders put into their letters. I know that the Veterans will appreciate it too!  Reminders: 11/14 -- Picture Retakes Here are some photos from the week...
