Week 12

Yay - A full week of school! Here are some highlights...

On Wednesday, we met with our 4th grade buddies. The kiddos got to make their very own paper bag turkey! All of the kiddos had lots that they are thankful for :)

On Thursday, our Literacy Coach, Mrs.Edwards, came to visit during our reader's workshop. She came in to see all of the growth and progress the first graders have made in their reading. Mrs. Edwards also showed the class some research and charts about reading. The visual showed how staying engaged, ignoring distractions and focusing on our books can help us keep growing and growing! On the chart, the reader that was focused and reading the whole time at school, at home, in the store, in the car, etc. was represented by a green line, so in Room 112 we are becoming "green line" readers!

In math, we are taking our work with place value and using it to add bigger numbers together. When we understand the value of each digit we know that 23 is really 20 + 3. So when we see a number sentence with double digit numbers, we can break it into it's place value parts (tens and ones) and solve it with friendlier numbers! (Ex. 23 + 35 = 20 + 30 +3 + 5 = 55). Go mathematicians!
